Material Finesse:
Macro and Micro

Similar to the material experiments of
Frei Otto and Lars Spruyboek, with the
use of constraints, material
experimentation is attempted within
confines of computer simulacra.  The
specific constraints used in this body
research are referred to in Maya 7.0
as “springs.”  Material experimentation
examines a micron level simple
machine and its reaction both to
micron level and macro level changes.
The springs are just that as
constraining elements that react to
force according to de Young’s modulus.

An application of the “simple machine,”
research will be applied in defining the
double skin facade, its typical uses,
applications and especially its excess
functionality.    With this redundancy
inherent in the double skin facade,
additional uses are proposed and
constraints which governs a typical
skin may not necessarily be applicable
to its duplicate.
